One of the things we learned back in our MS Windows days (before shifting to Ubuntu) is that if you get a dialog box that pops up that is questionable, you will usually be given some choice:
Yes or No.
Ok or Cancel.
Scan or Stop Scan etc.
"Do not press the button that the dialog box is attempting to force you to press. "
Generally speaking, you should not click either button.
The freaks that create this kind of dialog box are fishing for USER INTERACTION.
Why?
There are some safety measures in place on modern computers that prevent certain things from happening unless there is USER INTERACTION.
USER INTERACTION tells the computer you have given your ok on what ever is about to happen.
What ever auspicious thing that is, that is about to happen...
The scam-mer, virus programmer can rig BOTH buttons to compromise the system, not just the Yes or Ok.
What you as the end user have to do, is shut the program or computer down instead - but not using the dialog box.
Ideally you shut the program down outside of the dialog box - even if you have to bring up the task manager to do so, or a deeper level Windows tool. Or, you shut the whole machine down.
Do not press the button that the dialog box is attempting to force you to press.
If an unknown dialog box appeared on your system and caused you to shut down the program or computer, We would suggest doing an online virus scan also.
The sooner the better. The virus check might not find anything, but it is worth a try, as the stakes are high...
NOTE: We no longer use Windows so i ma not sure of what all tools are available to you within Windows for shutting down rouge programs. If you know let me know.
Comment 1 Mention that you need a current backup of your OS and root drive. I backup each time I add a new program. I can be back up and be running within 15 minutes after a total system failure. If it were a rogue program, I wouldn't want it on my computer, so I'd use the Forced Uninstall in Revo Uninstaller. In reality, I wouldn't have it on my computer because I have a program called Blink that would have probably caught it when it tried to install itself originally....
Comment 2 In Ubuntu you can right click on the upper PANEL and choose "add to panel" and then select FORCE QUIT. That program allows you to shut down misbehaving applications....
Comment 3 Control/ Alt/ Delete> Windows Task Manager > select rogue program > End Task...
