Getting Carrara, Daz Studio, Hex and Bryce To Run In Ubuntu...

Carrara running under wine

Daz Studio 3 Advanced, Hex 2.5 and Bryce 5 just plain work in Ubuntu Studio 10.10 running under WINE 1.2. To get Carrara 5 to work, took a bit more trial and error. Testing was done on Ubuntu Studio 32-bit by elthommo. In theory, this should work with other versions of Ubuntu but we have not tested that as yet. Click the images to see larger versions.

Carrara would run but it would not render giving "An unknown error has occurred" as our only clue. After some trial and error it seemed to be "changing the scratch disk location that solved it, or it could have been un-checking use full-screen mode?" Odds are it is a combination of just the right settings. C++ runtime's were also installed in WINE. Note that WINE can be installed from within Ubuntu: Applications > Ubuntu Software Center > (search for WINE)

"I got it to work! It was going through preferences that did it, I think it was changing the scratch disk location that solved it. YAHOO! "

Carrara preferences

"The biggest lead was the Wine HQ app database itself which shows that others had failed to get Carrara 6+ to work but had been able to get V5 running. Also VitalBodies big list of things to try inspired me to go into the application preferences. "You may also want to look at this thread: Daz Forum Thread". "C++ will install with Daz Studio or you can get it separately below." elthommo

Has anyone gotten Carrara 6+ to work in Ubuntu under wine? We would like to hear about it! VitalBodies would like to thank the Wine Team for all of their efforts!
