Our OOMA Has Paid For Itself And Our High Speed Internet In Only 6 Months

Gate and Fence

Some time back we bought an OOMA, which is a device that allows you to make free phone calls in the US. This is not like MagicJack or Vonage. With the OOMA there are no fees, like the the other name brand voice over IP solutions. Oh sure, you can upgrade for a fee, by adding features such as a second line, but the basic OOMA service is free. When we bought this device we estimated that in 6 months it would have paid not only for itself, but also for our high speed Internet. And here we are, about 6 months later, and the OOMA has done this and more. The OOMA also paid for our long distance, as long distance calling is free!

The Phone Bill Used to have one but haven't for months...

How did it pay for our high speed Internet? Phone alone would have been about $30-35 a month in the Florence area. "How can we beat that?" we thought. Well, we did just that. We found a promo deal with Charter, for our cable Internet, offering two years of service for $33 a month. That $33 included the rent for our cable modem, at $3 a month.

At that time, when we bought our OOMA, it was on special for $180. We would have had to pay for both phone and high speed Internet ($65 a month) without the OOMA. But with the OOMA we only have had to pay for Internet. So at $33 a month for internet, and $180 for the OOMA we have paid roughly $378 in the first 6 months. The phone bill AND Internet bill would have cost us $65 a month ($378 for 6 months) or more, without the OOMA. Remember, any long distance would have added even more to the cost of the land line phone bill, where with the OOMA this was included - free long distance in the US.

Messages We can listen to them at home or away.

But now for the best part. The OOMA is paid for. We can continue to make free phone calls and our Internet is only $33 a month for at least another year. Ok, so that was a sweet deal on the OOMA at $180 as they are usually $250. But at either $180 or $250 the OOMA will still pay for itself pretty quickly. We like that if the internet goes down, the messages are still saved on the OOMA server. Additionally, we can listen to our messages using the OOMA hub, or online using a browser - excellent while traveling. We also found a better modem at the thrift store for $3 and returned the Charter modem by mail. We now do not have to pay the $3/month rent, and the connection is actually more stable. We found our best prices for the OOMA on Amazon, using the link below, although the OOMA site has some nice deals from time to time if you use promo codes.

"Buying the OOMA created a substantial savings and two less bills to pay. We only pay for Internet - no phone or distance bills"
