Subject: Open Source Cd/DVD cover for Open Source Projects
UPDATE: LightScribe Jaunty Jackalope Covers!
VitalBodies make custom graphics for clients including custom CD and DVD labels. We also like to support (give back to) the Open Source movement.
One of the inspirations behind this site is creating Open Source projects that others can share in.
One such project is an Open Source Cd/DVD cover for Open Source Projects.
The idea started by trying to burn a Custom LightScribe label onto a LightScribe disk with the full moon as the background.
Next I wanted to make a cover to burn onto a LightScribe disk for Ubuntu for Personal use. Getting LightScribe going in Ubuntu was challenging so I made a BLOG POST to help others.
Now that I have used Ubuntu for a while I wanted to share Ubuntu with others and started on version 2 of my disk cover.
From there I though that others might like to burn their own Ubuntu covers using my template so I started to make the cover a bit nicer and more generic and thus flexible in GIMP. Most people might want to change the text or the back ground or get even more artistic.
The JPG image created in GIMP is used by the Lacie program to burn a disk label. The image below is what you would use if you just want to burn a quick label but you can not customize the JPG easily without the GIMP file.

The disk looks better in the hand than on screen.
Download the GIMP template:

You will need this FONT for GIMP to display the graphic correctly: Ubuntu-Title
But what about other Open Source software?
Well sure, how about a template made in GIMP or Inkscape or both that works for many different Open Source projects.
Ok...
What if we take that a step further and make an Open Source template that all the Open Source Projects can use or add to? Each of us personally only have so much time and expertise. Having others join in and take the project further is fun and helps others help others...
I have taken the idea this far so far. Can you add your expertise?
Thus, this project is born as a tiny seed that could bloom into some much much more.
So how far along is the project?
