My Dog Ate My Stereo...

Dancing - Boom Boom Pow

You are laying in your bed having a dream about, "the product of loveliness" when you wake up with a start, to the sound of a giant, oddly muffled rumble that is rolling down the road below your window heading towards the lake. Somehow you immediately know without anyone telling you, that your dog ate your stereo! Your receiver, CD player, tape deck, reel to reel, graphic equalizer, amplifier, head phones, numerous speakers, and whole pile of cables are all inside your dog who is now so large and round it is rolling down the hill, with a peculiar fur-to-ground rumble! You hear the odd sound of all your components clacking together as they all roll down the hill inside your dog. "An unforgettable sound," you think to yourself. For some unknown reason, you flash on the fact that each component might be RoHS, but you put that quickly aside as you realize the giant splash you hear is from your dog hitting the lake. On some deep gut level you absolutely know that this means you will probably never see your stereo or dog again. You run to the living room windows that overlook the lake below and you can see a large wave heading out in all directions. You see your neighbors looking up at you in disbelief at what they seem to be seeing. Only then do you realize you did not get dressed before racing to the window! At this point your thoughts get muddied by what to do. Seemingly, out of nowhere, a realization slowly emerges in your mind, "wait a minute, I don't even have a dog or a stereo!" As the full realization emerges that your dog could not have eaten your stereo, because you do not have a dog or a stereo, you awaken in your bed soaking wet from a full body sweat. You think to yourself, "it was only a dream". But then reality bites hard - without a stereo you can't dance!

Ok, so dance might not be your top priority, but what if, I mean just maybe, you wanted to dance? We are not talking pro dance, but dancing for the sake of dance. Like get that body moving like it has never moved before. What would you wear? What shoes would you have on and what songs would be playing on what stereo? Ya, pretty basic, but hey. Or what if you do know the answers, but they are way out of date, like you are almost paralyzed in the real world? What is current, it all changes so fast?

"Rhythm is a dancer, it's a soul companion, people feel it everywhere, lift your hands and voices, free your mind and join us you can feel it in the air, it's a passion..."

Dancing - Wired For Sound

In this series of articles we are going to journey back and then forward, to what might have been and what seemingly is. I asked a number of folks what their favorite dance songs are and so did my sweetie. So far most could offer only one song or perhaps two and that was pretty foggy. Even then, what decade were they from? Actually though, what decade does not really matter, as long as the song moves you, gets you on your feet and onto to the dance floor.

For some Micheal Jackson was epic, and had epic dance songs that still stand today as all time favorites. In fact, that was many peoples "noted choice" of the folks we asked. Some could relate to dancing, not so much for themselves dancing, but in the classic sense of watching quality dancing.

What to play dance music or dance videos on was even more of a mystery in terms of what is current. These are not the days of vinyl records or even CDs (which are fine too) or even reel to reel! From what the high fidelity folks would say, not MP3 either. So what then is it? In a world or lossless vs lossy where do you turn? And just to complicate things, what if you wanted to stream your sound or 1080P wireless? Cables, you mean we might need cables?! That does "make me want to scream"...
