Solid Wood File Cabinet With Tung Oil Finish...

Solid Wood File Cabinet With Tung Oil Finish

We bought a filing cabinet quite some time back for $20. It is solid wood (I would guess fir). I looked it up the other day and they go for $500-600 unfinished. I added new feet and replaced the toe kick plate with a new heavy duty one I made from scratch out of cedar. I searched for some online photos of pure Tung oil on unfinished furniture and did not really find what I needed, so I wanted to add some for others that might be also looking.

"With the drawer open you can see the before and after of the Tung oil on the wood surface..."

Some Really Nice And New Eco Products

EarthLED Bulb

An eco product that you have all heard of is LED light bulbs. Until now the price has been high for these screw in replacements for your indoor or outdoor light bulbs. We think that the tables have now turned because of recent price changes. We are seeing bulbs in the $10-15 range that are great 40-60 watt bulb replacements. If you find some deals, you might even find 75-100 watt replacements. The first thing most people might think about is the energy savings. The energy savings are substantial. But even if you ignore those substantial energy savings you will still save on LED over CFL bulbs for the simple reason that the LED bulbs last so much longer. There is less bulb changing in terms of cost and hassle as the years go by. PLUS no mercury. In our own very informal testing we have not seen CFL bulbs last all that long. Some do but most have not.

So how much energy is saved? A 40 watt incandescent would be reduced to a 6 watt LED bulb. Here is an example: Let's take our porch light. We prefer about 40 watts of light from our porch light. To us that is not to dark or to bright. We can run our porch light 3 hours an evening for 365 days a year and it will only cost us about 72 cents per year at 11 cents per kilowatt hour. Imagine that, we could run the bulb 24 hours a day for 365 days a year for only $5.76 a year. Even better, we only pay 7 cents a kilowatt here so it would be close to half that. They say these bulbs last about 9 years. It would cost close to about $4.80 to run an incandescent for 3 hours an evening (365 days a year) at 11 cents per kilowatt hour rather than 72 cents.

Eco-tote IBC Pallet Tote Rain Water Catchment

catchment near Siltcoos Lake Florence Oregon

In an out of the way place on high ground something is starting to happen. Water catchment. Our modest 2 car garage flat roof is about 720 square feet. With 75-80 inches of rain a year here in the rain forest, that is over 8,294,400 cubic inches of water. Think we can fill this 300 gallon plus eco-tote IBC? I think we can.

For a little get-off-the-couch incentive, I think we need a little MATH to get us excited for this project. 720 square feet is what, about 103,680 square inches? Um, 720x144=103680, well ya, pretty much. So even an inch of rain is really 103,680 cubic inches coming off that roof. Cubic inches, wow, that is like one hundred thousand ice cubes melting our way. That is a lot of water. So how much water is that, if we had 80 inches of rain? How about 8,294,400 cubic inches. Anyone know how many gallons that is? So say that slowly, like the sporting announcers do. Ready? Ok, eight million, two hundred and ninety four thousand, four hundred cubic inches of water a year! That is 4800 cubic feet of water. If you think about that, a 10' by 10' by 8 foot high room (like a bed room) is only 800 cubic feet. We could float you out of your bed some night!

Comparison Shopping For Free Shopping Carts

Comparison Shopping For Free Shopping Carts

Shopping carts online are very common, but if you have never set one up they can seem daunting. There are more choices then you can shake a stick at and that can be the first hurdle you come to. To simplify the matter let's break them down a bit into simple categories. There are hosted or non-hosted carts. Hosted means that the cart provider hosts the carts and does all the technical stuff to make it all go. If you host the cart yourself (un-hosted) then you take on the job of dealing with technical issues or you have to hire someone to deal with them. So why not go with hosted? Your cart is on someone else's domain and so is all your traffic.

Free or paid: there many free solutions out there and a huge amount of paid solutions. Other categories to consider are open source or closed source and simple to full featured. In this article we will be focusing on our favorite carts which are free (un-hosted) open source shopping carts that we will install on our own domain. Even though we narrowed down the field to "free (un-hosted) open source shopping carts that we will install on our own domain" there are still a number of categories to continue to drill down though.

"So what does it all come down to? Wordpress is just more user friendly and more fun to use at this point..."
