Real Food Coop – Needs Store Assistants
Posted on May 18th, 2009 No commentsTwenty-Six, In-Store-Assistants are the present “catch of the day” at Maple and Rhody. Would you enjoy being one of them?
Our May calendar is filled with cashiers who are keeping the till ringing. But, Cashiers need help from one or two people per day to perform general daily duties depending on the day’s needs. For example, when products get purchased… extra products in storage need to be added to the bulk containers… such as coffee beans. Spills need to be cleaned up. etc.
It’s so easy to get in on the fun of community. Just stop in and ask “How Can I Help?” Encourage your partner and friends to do the same.
The store’s new phone number is 997-3396. Ask to be put on the calendar if you want an exact time or if you want to be in the store when a certain cashier is working.
If evenings are the only time you have to give 3-4 hours a month, call Jenn on Tuesdays or Thursdays at the store; call a cashier and leave a message; or email me kdd@oregonfast.net and I’ll pass the message on for that potential. The store is already open until 8pm on Tuesdays, when Oceana Delivery truck arrives with food.
The following crews are posted on a green sheet on the Community Board at our store, for further information.

Real Food Coop Fun Sunday May 10th 2009
Posted on May 9th, 2009 No comments“Please join in the fun Sunday. Come to the new store about noon to help with putting away, cleaning, and anything that needs to be done. The old Store needs to be cleaned and the wall repaired where we removed shelving. ( spackle, etc.) (You will first need to get an “old-store key” at the new store.) The old yellow freezer at the old store needs cleaning and then needs to be taken to St. Vinnies this next week. (We have a very nice new freezer at the new store thanks to a member and local church.) We intend to be open for business Monday at noon. We accomplished a tremendous amount today. Thank you to everyone who came to help” Jenn Nelson, General Manager Real Food Co-op 1379 B. Rhododendron Dr.

Real Food Coop In Florence Oregon Needs Natural Flooring.
Posted on April 25th, 2009 No commentsReal Food Coop In Florence Oregon Needs Natural Flooring
The Real Food Coop is moving to a new location. The new location needs flooring to replace the existing carpet.
There are many considerations in choosing flooring like budget, what reclaimed materials are available and the general average moisture content of the floor in the new location.
Most flooring specialists suggest using a moisture meter and many would claim that a meter is absolutely essential for solid hardwood flooring.
Generally one meters the new flooring before installation also to determine if the flooring is at the correct moisture content.
Reclaimed materials that can be used for flooring would be the first choice and anyone with suggestions should contact the coop.
The Coop is currently located across from Honeyman Nursery on Highway 101 South, just a couple of miles south of the Siuslaw River Bridge that crosses over Old Town Florence.
If solid hardwood is not the ideal choice, VitalBodies suggests considering a “floating floor” that is neither nailed down or glued down so that the COOP can take the flooring with them should they ever move again.
Most floating floors need the underlayment to be brought to the point of being flat, with some kind of grout-like leveling compound and the moisture level needs to be within spec of the flooring that is being installed.
There are many kinds of natural flooring materials these days including bamboo, hard woods, Marmoleum, and more.
Did you know that there is (or was) a natural flooring shop next door to Oceana Coop in Newport Oregon?
